PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, January 17, 2014

The weather that would have cleared Beijing's air on Thursday afternoon never actually arrived, so the poor air quality will be hanging around for a while longer.  We can expect very high AQI levels through Friday mid-morning, but between mid-morning and mid-afternoon we should see the pollution start to clear out.  If all goes well, we could see Moderate air quality by late afternoon, or we might have to wait until later in the evening for some decent air quality.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, January 18:  Saturday looks like a fairly average day for Beijing.  We should see somewhat clear skies in the morning (a carry-over from Friday’s clearing), then increasing pollution in the afternoon and evening.  Unless the forecast changes, it looks unlikely that the accumulation in the evening would happen quickly, so we should top out at Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy.

SUNDAY, January 19:  There is a good chance we will see the skies clear again on Sunday, likely between about 8AM and noon, then the pollution levels should remain low for the rest of the day.

MONDAY, January 20:  If the extended forecast holds, we can expect Good/Moderate air quality for Beijing all day on Monday.
