Hiatus

As you may have noticed, we've been absent for a bit.  It seems that life sometimes gets in the way of predicting the air quality, so we will be taking a hiatus from posting for a while.  We hope to be back in business in time for the poor air quality of late fall and winter, so be sure to check back as the weather cools off and the pollution comes back full force.

Monday, September 1, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, September 1, 2014

Our streak of poor air quality shows no signs of ending today:  look for the Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy conditions to continue for the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, September 2:  Tuesday presents the possibility of somewhat improved air quality during the day, and there is a strong chance of clearing skies late in the evening.

WEDNESDAY, September 3:  We are likely to see Good or Moderate AQI readings as we start off Wednesday, but don't expect those conditions to last much past early afternoon.

THURSDAY, September 4:  Thursday will likely not be as good as Wednesday, but we can't guarantee a return to average conditions from this far out.

Friday, August 29, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, August 29, 2014

Our streak of Unhealthy air quality promises to stay around for the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, August 31:  No change in the forecast for Sunday:  look for the Unhealthy conditions to continue for another day.

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Our hoped-for better than average conditions are in place, and it looks like there is a good chance that they will stay around for most of the day.  But at some point this afternoon or evening, we do expect the pollution levels to start increasing again.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, August 28:  Thursday should bring us back to about average levels, Unhealthy for likely the entire day.

FRIDAY, August 29:  Friday should again have us at Unhealthy conditions for the entire day.

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, August 26, 2014

We've been lucky to keep better than average air quality around overnight and through the morning, and now it looks like we have a good chance that it will stay around for most of the day.  We should again see the pollution accumulate somewhat in the late afternoon and evening, but it will likely be late before we see Unhealthy conditions.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, August 27:  We’re on the fence for Wednesday's forecast.  Some of the signs point to average air quality, but there are other signs pointing toward better than average conditions.  If we have to choose, we'll go with better than average conditions as the most likely scenario for Wednesday.

THURSDAY, August 28:  Thursday should keep the pollution around average levels, Unhealthy for likely the entire day.

FRIDAY, August 29:  Friday should again have us at Unhealthy conditions for the entire day.

Monday, August 25, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, August 25, 2014

So far, Sunday's good air quality has stayed around, but it is unlikely that it will stay around much longer.  Look for gradual increases in the pollution for the rest of the day, and we may or may not make it to Unhealthy before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, August 26:  Tuesday may start off with better than average air quality, but we expect to be back at Unhealthy conditions by late afternoon or early evening.

WEDNESDAY, August 27:  We’re expecting Wednesday to be about average for Beijing, so look for Unhealthy conditions for most, if not all of the day.

THURSDAY, August 28:  Thursday should keep the pollution around average levels, Unhealthy for likely the entire day.

Sunday, August 24, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, August 24, 2014

We've had great air this morning, and that should continue for a few more hours, likely until late afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, August 25:  For now it looks like the better than average air quality should carry over into Monday, possibly through most of the afternoon, but we should see the pollution start to accumulate again before the day is over.

TUESDAY, August 26:  Tuesday may start off with slightly better than average air quality, but we expect to be back at Unhealthy conditions by late afternoon or early evening.

WEDNESDAY, August 27:  We're expecting Wednesday to be about average for Beijing, so look for Unhealthy conditions for most, if not all of the day.

Saturday, August 23, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, August 23, 2014

We've seen poor air quality overnight, and that should continue throughout the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, August 24:  There is a good chance of clearing skies on Sunday morning, so you can expect better than average conditions, likely Good or Moderate AQI readings, for nearly the entire day.

MONDAY, August 25:  For now it looks like the good air quality should carry over into Monday, likely into the early afternoon, but we should see the pollution start to accumulate again before the day is over.

SATURDAY, August 23:  We're looking for another day with average conditions on Saturday.

SUNDAY, August 24:  There is a good chance of clearing skies on Sunday, so you can expect better than average conditions, likely Good or Moderate AQI readings.

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Some of the volatility we saw in the AQI over the weekend has gone away, unfortunately leaving us with readings steadily in the Unhealthy range.  We expect that to continue for the rest of the day and into Wednesday.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, August 20:  Wednesday should bring us another day with average conditions, although we are starting to see a possibility of improved air quality in the afternoon.  If that pans out, we could see Moderate or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups conditions in the afternoon and evening.

THURSDAY, August 21:  Thursday looks similar to the days before, so we have to go with a prediction of average air quality for the day.  And again there is some indication that the air quality might be somewhat better in the afternoon.

FRIDAY, August 22:  Friday’s forecast should have us at Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

Monday, August 18, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, August 18, 2014

Our air quality roller coaster continues with significant changes on an hour-by-hour basis.  The weather forecast should take us back up to Unhealthy conditions, but based on the past few days, we can't rule out Moderate conditions during daylight hours.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, August 19:  Tuesday's forecast should have us at Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

WEDNESDAY, August 20:  Wednesday should bring us another day with average conditions:  Unhealthy AQI readings should be the order for the day.

THURSDAY, August 21:  Thursday looks similar to the days before, so we have to go with a prediction of average air quality for the day.  But there is some indication that the air quality might be somewhat better in the afternoon.

Sunday, August 17, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, August 17, 2014

Within the last 16 hours, we've seen a seven-fold increase in PM2.5, then a drop of more than 90%.  In this environment, it's very difficult to predict where things will go next, but we'll give it a shot.  The currently decent air quality is unlikely to stay around for long, so look for a return to average, Unhealthy conditions during the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, August 18:  There is a slight chance of improved air quality in the early hours on Monday, but it is most likely that we will see Unhealthy conditions instead, still average for this time of year.

TUESDAY, August 19:  Tuesday should keep the streak alive with Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

WEDNESDAY, August 20:  Wednesday should bring us another day with average conditions:  Unhealthy AQI readings should be the order for the day.

Saturday, August 16, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, August 16, 2014

It's been a real roller coaster for our air quality recently, but we're going to stay with our forecast from yesterday:  after this morning's improved air quality, we should be back to about average conditions for the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, August 17:  Sunday should bring us another day with average conditions:  Unhealthy AQI readings should be the order for the day.

MONDAY, August 18:  And Monday should keep us at Unhealthy conditions, still average for this time of year.

TUESDAY, August 19:  Tuesday should keep the streak alive with Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

Friday, August 15, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, August 15, 2014

Thursday was a good surprise as we saw better than average air quality for much longer than we expected.  But it seems like the tide has finally turned on Friday morning with our return to Unhealthy AQI readings.  From here we should stay in the Unhealthy range for the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, August 16:  There is still a slight chance of improved air quality in the morning, but the most likely scenario is average, Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

SUNDAY, August 17:  Sunday should bring us another day with average conditions:  Unhealthy AQI readings should be the order for the day.

MONDAY, August 18:  And Monday should keep us at Unhealthy conditions, still average for this time of year.

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, August 13, 2014

We're on the march back toward average air quality on Wednesday so, although we could see better than average AQI levels for a few more hours, we should end up at Unhealthy readings before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, August 14:  We should be back to average conditions on Thursday:  Unhealthy AQI readings should be the order for the day.

FRIDAY, August 15:  Friday should keep us at Unhealthy conditions, still average for this time of year.

SATURDAY, August 16:  There is a slight chance of improved air quality in the morning, but the most likely scenario is average, Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Just like the last couple of days, we should see Good or Moderate AQI readings for most of the day, then increasing pollution in the evening.  But then we should see the pollution drop down again sometime around midnight.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, August 13:  There is a chance Wednesday could start off with decent conditions, but we think it’s more likely that we will return to average conditions by late morning or early afternoon, so look for Unhealthy AQI readings for much of the day.

THURSDAY, August 14:  We should be back to average conditions on Thursday:  Unhealthy AQI readings should be the order for the day.

FRIDAY, August 15:  Friday should keep us at Unhealthy conditions, still average for this time of year.

Monday, August 11, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, August 11, 2014

Monday is looking like a great day for air quality with Good or Moderate readings, and, although there is a chance the pollution could increase in the afternoon, it looks like the AQI should not move up much before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, August 12:  Monday’s better than average air quality has a very good chance of carrying over into Tuesday, so we could see more Good and Moderate conditions throughout the day.

WEDNESDAY, August 13:  There is a chance Wednesday could start off with decent conditions, but we think it's more likely that we will return to average conditions by late morning or early afternoon, so look for Unhealthy AQI readings for much of the day.

Sunday, August 10, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, August 10, 2014

Sunday started off with surprisingly good air quality, but that is not likely to last for long.  We expect to be back at Unhealthy conditions before the day is over, although we could see conditions improve again near midnight.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, August 11:  Monday's chance of improved air quality looks like it is coming through.  We are expecting Good or Moderate air quality for almost the entire day.

TUESDAY, August 12:  Monday's good air quality has a decent chance of carrying over into Tuesday morning, but we should see increasing pollution in the afternoon and evening.

WEDNESDAY, August 13:  We're likely to be back at average conditions on Wednesday, so look for Unhealthy AQI readings for most of the day.

Friday, August 8, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, August 8, 2014

More average air quality for Friday, so we can expect Unhealthy conditions for the remainder of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, August 9:  More of the same on Saturday:  Unhealthy conditions are likely for the entire day.

SUNDAY, August 10:  Sunday should keep us at about average conditions once again, although there is also a chance that we could see the AQI climb up into the Very Unhealthy range.

MONDAY, August 11:  Monday will most likely bring us about average conditions, but it looks like there is some chance of improved air quality in the afternoon.  We'll keep an eye on this weather pattern and hope for the best.

Thursday, August 7, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, August 7, 2014

We did see just a slight improvement in air quality this morning, but it looks like that has passed and that we are heading back up in the Unhealthy for the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, August 8:  Friday should keep us at about the same pollution levels, about average conditions (Unhealthy, generally) throughout the day.

SATURDAY, August 9:  More of the same on Saturday:  Unhealthy conditions are likely for the entire day.

SUNDAY, August 10:  Sunday should keep us at about average conditions once again.

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, August 6, 2014

We finally made it back to Unhealthy conditions overnight, but it looks like we have some chance of better than average air quality for Wednesday.  If we do see improved air quality, it should happen in the morning or early afternoon, then the pollution should accumulate again in the late afternoon and evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, August 7:  We have another slight chance at improved air quality in the morning on Thursday, but the most likely scenario is about average conditions throughout the day.

FRIDAY, August 8:  Friday should keep us at about the same pollution levels, about average conditions (Unhealthy, generally) throughout the day.

SATURDAY, August 9:  More of the same on Saturday:  Unhealthy conditions are likely for the entire day.

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, August 5, 2014

We've been lucky to keep Monday's good air here for a while on Tuesday morning, but that should not last much longer.  You can expect the AQI to increase throughout the afternoon, likely leaving us at Unhealthy or higher before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, August 6:  Wednesday should have us back at average conditions again:  AQI readings should be mostly at Unhealthy throughout the day.

THURSDAY, August 7:  More of the same for Thursday, and there’s a chance that conditions will be worse than average.

FRIDAY, August 8:  Friday should keep us at about the same pollution levels, about average conditions (Unhealthy, generally) throughout the day.

Monday, August 4, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, August 4, 2014

We're back!  And just in time for a chance at some decent air quality for the first time in a week.  We should see the pollution falling during the morning hours, possibly leaving us at Good/Moderate AQI readings for a large part of the day.  We say possibly because the rainy conditions may spoil the clearing skies and hold in some of that pollution.  In any case, we should see the pollution climbing again in the evening. likely back toward Unhealthy conditions.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, August 5:  We have a small chance that decent air quality could hold over into Tuesday morning.  Absent that, look for about average conditions (Unhealthy, generally) throughout the day.

WEDNESDAY, August 6:  Wednesday should keep us at average conditions again:  AQI readings mostly at Unhealthy throughout the day.

THURSDAY, August 7:  More of the same for Thursday, and there's a chance that conditions will be worse than average.

Monday, July 28, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, July 29, 2014

We're going on hiatus for a couple of days, but before we do we have a quick look at the forecast for the rest of the week.  For Tuesday, expect conditions similar to Sunday and Monday:  Unhealthy conditions are likely throughout the day with a peak in the morning and the best air of the day in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, July 30:  For Wednesday, we should see average or slightly worse than average conditions, so look for Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy AQI readings throughout the day.

THURSDAY, July 31:  More of the same for Thursday:  Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

FRIDAY, August 1:  Friday should make it 3 in a row for average or worse than average conditions.

Sunday, July 27, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, July 28, 2014

Monday looks like it could be a repeat of Sunday.  We could see AQI readings at Unhealthy for the entire day, but we can't rule out the possibility of seeing readings at Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, July 29:  Tuesday’s weather looks remarkably similar to Sunday and Monday’s, so look for average or slightly better than average conditions.

WEDNESDAY, July 30:  We should be back to about average conditions on Wednesday, so look for Unhealthy AQI readings for much of the day.

THURSDAY, July 31:  Thursday should be just another average day.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, July 27, 2014

We have another chance at better than average air quality on Sunday.  After seeing Unhealthy AQI readings overnight, we should see the pollution drop off through the morning, leaving us with AQI readings most likely at Moderate or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for the afternoon and much of the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, July 28:  Monday could bring us more of the same or a return to about-average conditions with Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI readings.

TUESDAY, July 29:  Tuesday's weather looks remarkably similar to Sunday and Monday's, so look for average or slightly better than average conditions.

WEDNESDAY, July 30:  We should be back to about average conditions on Wednesday, so look for Unhealthy AQI readings for much of the day.

Friday, July 25, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, July 26, 2014

We saw the better than average air quality we expected on Friday, but it is unlikely to last much longer.  We should see increasing pollution overnight, leaving us with Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy conditions by morning.  We could see the pollution drop a bit in the afternoon, but that probably will not be enough to move the AQI lower than Unhealthy.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, July 27:  We're in for similar conditions on Sunday, although we do have some chance of slightly better than average conditions in the afternoon.

MONDAY, July 28:  Monday should bring us more of the same, with Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI readings.

TUESDAY, July 29:  And the streak should continue on Tuesday with average conditions.

Thursday, July 24, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, July 25, 2014

After an average day on Thursday, we have a chance at improved air quality on Friday.  We could see somewhat elevated pollution overnight, but then we expect the skies to clear at least to some extent in the morning.  We could see the AQI drop as low as Moderate in the morning and afternoon before the pollution starts to accumulate again in the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, July 26:  We're expecting to be back at average conditions on Saturday:  look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

SUNDAY, July 27:  The streak of average air quality should continue on Sunday, although we do have some chance of slightly better than average conditions in the afternoon.

MONDAY, July 28:  Monday should bring us more of the same with Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups conditions.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, July 24, 2014

It looks like we're headed back to about average conditions on Thursday, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for most of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, July 25:  The average conditions should continue on Friday.

SATURDAY, July 26:  And more of the same for Saturday:  look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

SUNDAY, July 27:  The streak of average air quality should continue on Sunday.

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Our forecast for Wednesday is remarkably similar to our forecast for Tuesday.  We have a decent chance of staying in the Good to Moderate range overnight and into the morning, but we can't rule out the possibility of increasing pollution early in the morning.  By some time shortly after noon, we should start to see the pollution rise again, likely leaving us with Unhealthy AQI readings before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, July 24:  Thursday is likely to give us our return to average conditions with AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

FRIDAY, July 25:  The average conditions should continue on Friday.

SATURDAY, July 26:  And more of the same for Saturday:  look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

Monday, July 21, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Monday's air quality turned out great, and it looks like we have a good chance at more of the same on Tuesday.  We can expect Good or Moderate air quality overnight and through the morning, although there is a slight chance we could see the AQI move up to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups during that time frame.  Then we could see the pollution pick up somewhat significantly in the evening, but if we're lucky that might not take us all the way up to Unhealthy before midnight.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, July 23:  Our forecast for Wednesday is a bit mixed.  There is a decent chance we could see a return to average conditions, with AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.  But there is also a chance the better than average conditions from Tuesday could persist.  Given these different possibilities, our best prediction for right now is that we will likely see better than average conditions, but likely not too many readings in the Good or Moderate ranges.

THURSDAY, July 24:  Thursday should give us our return to average conditions with AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

FRIDAY, July 25:  The average conditions should continue on Friday.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, July 21, 2014

Our forecast for Monday is slightly less positive than it was yesterday, but we're still almost certain that we will see better than average air quality for the day.  After seeing Unhealthy conditions overnight, look for decreasing pollution in the morning and early afternoon.  We could drop as low as Moderate on the AQI scale during the afternoon hours.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, July 22:  There is a very good chance that the better than average air quality from Monday will carry over to Tuesday, but right now it looks like Tuesday's air quality will probably not be quite as good as Monday's.

WEDNESDAY, July 23:  Our most likely outcome for Wednesday is a return to average conditions, so we can expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

THURSDAY, July 24:  Thursday should give us similar conditions, about average with AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

Saturday, July 19, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, July 20, 2014

Saturday brought us some better than average air quality, and it looks like Sunday may bring us more of the same.  We should see Unhealthy AQI readings overnight, but the pollution should clear somewhat in the late morning/early afternoon.  If everything goes well, we could see the AQI drop as low as Moderate for most of the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, July 21:  It looks like there should be some real relief in sight on Monday.  The morning should give us poor air quality, but there is a very good chance that we could see clearing skies by late afternoon or early evening, probably down to Good/Moderate AQI readings in the afternoon or evening.

TUESDAY, July 22:  Tuesday’s forecast is a bit up in the air at the moment.  There is a decent chance that the good air quality from Monday will carry over, but it’s still difficult to say that for certain at this point.

WEDNESDAY, July 23:  Our most likely outcome for Wednesday is a return to average conditions, so we can expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

Friday, July 18, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, July 19, 2014

We're in for another day of poor air quality on Saturday.  You can expect Unhealthy AQI readings for nearly the entire day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, July 20:  Sunday’s forecast is similar to Saturday's, but there is a decent chance of improved AQI readings in the afternoon.  We could drop down to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups or, if we're lucky, down to Moderate.

MONDAY, July 21:  It looks like there should be some real relief in sight on Monday.  The morning should give us poor air quality, but there is a decent chance that we could see clearing skies by late afternoon or early evening.

TUESDAY, July 22:  Tuesday's forecast is a bit up in the air at the moment.  There is a decent chance that the good air quality from Monday will carry over, but it's difficult to say that for certain at this point.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, July 18, 2014

Thursday's AQI readings went higher than we expected, and Friday's are not looking good either.  We are expecting increasing PM2.5 levels through the early morning hours then expecting a slight decrease in the pollution by late morning or early afternoon.  You should see no better than Unhealthy conditions, and the most likely scenario has us at Very Unhealthy conditions for much of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, July 19:  Saturday is not looking much better, so you can expect Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy conditions for much of the day.

SUNDAY, July 20:  Sunday's forecast is similar, so there is a good chance that we will spend most of the day at Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy conditions.  There is some chance of slightly improved AQI readings in the afternoon, but we are not expecting to go below Unhealthy.

MONDAY, July 21:  It looks like there might be some relief in sight on Monday.  The morning should give us poor air quality, but there is a decent chance that we could see clearing skies by late afternoon or early evening.

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, July 17, 2014

We're expecting poor air quality again on Thursday, although we do not expect the AQI to go quite as high as it did on Wednesday.  We could see the AQI move up a bit overnight, but it should start to drop back down a bit early in the morning.  If we're lucky, we could see the AQI down at Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups before the pollution starts to accumulate again in the late afternoon and evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, July 18:  Friday should keep us at “normal” conditions, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

SATURDAY, July 19:  Saturday should keep the streak of average air quality going.

SUNDAY, July 20:  From this far out, it's difficult to make a call on Sunday's air quality, but for now it looks like we should see average to slightly better than average air quality for most of the day.  That means we should see some part of the day at Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups levels and possibly down to Moderate at times.

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Tuesday brought us back into what we would consider to be a normal range of AQI readings for Beijing in the summer, and Wednesday should keep us in that same range.  We should see Unhealthy conditions overnight and into the morning, then we should see somewhat clearing skies from late morning through the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, July 17:  Thursday’s forecast is similar to Wednesday’s so, for now, we’re going to stay with the forecast of average air quality for Thursday and a slight chance of better than average conditions, particularly so if we see better than average conditions on Wednesday night.

FRIDAY, July 18:  Friday should keep us at “normal” conditions, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

SATURDAY, July 19:  Saturday should keep the streak of average air quality going.

Monday, July 14, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, July 15, 2014

The weather forecast for Monday was a bit off, but luckily it was off in a way that brought us better air quality than we expected.  But the weather forecast predicts a return to "normal" for Tuesday, so we're not expecting the Moderate AQI readings that we saw on Monday.  Look for us to move back up to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups or Unhealthy overnight and into the morning, then we should see the AQI drop back down a bit in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, July 16:  We think the most likely scenario for Wednesday is another day with normal air quality, but we can't rule out the possibility of somewhat clearing skies early on Wednesday morning.  We'll see if we get any more clarity on that forecast tomorrow.

THURSDAY, July 17:  Thursday's forecast is similar to Wednesday's so, for now, we're going to stay with the forecast of average air quality for Thursday and a slight chance of better than average conditions, especially in the morning hours.

FRIDAY, July 18:  Friday should keep us at “normal” conditions, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, July 14, 2014

Sunday night's Unhealthy air quality signaled the return of average air for us in Beijing.  We're expecting "normal" summer air quality for Monday, and that means AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day, peak pollution in the morning, and decreased pollution in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, July 15:  Tuesday should keep us at about average conditions, Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups all day long.

WEDNESDAY, July 16:  The normal air quality should continue on Wednesday.

THURSDAY, July 17:  Thursday should keep the trend of “normal” conditions going, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

Saturday, July 12, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, July 13, 2014

We've had nearly a week of good air quality, but it looks like it is coming to an end on Sunday.  We will probably start off the day with Good or Moderate AQI readings, but those readings should climb throughout the day, probably up to Unhealthy before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, July 14:  We’re expecting to be back to “normal” conditions in Beijing on Monday, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

TUESDAY, July 15:  Tuesday should keep us at about average conditions, Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups all day long.

WEDNESDAY, July 16:  The normal air quality should continue on Wednesday.

Friday, July 11, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, July 12, 2014

We're on a good streak of air quality, and it looks like Saturday is bringing us more of the same.  We are expecting Good or Moderate AQI readings in the morning and early afternoon before the pollution starts to accumulate again in the afternoon and evening.  We could see Unhealthy readings before the day is over, but if we're lucky the AQI will stay at Moderate or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, July 13:  It looks like Sunday morning's air quality will be better than average and possibly Good or Moderate.  But we should see deteriorating conditions in the afternoon, very likely back at Unhealthy conditions in the late evening.

Thursday, July 10, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, July 11, 2014

Friday should give us the best air quality of the week, so we're in for a great start to the weekend.  Look for Good or Moderate air quality for most of the day, then we should see increased AQI readings in the late afternoon and evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, July 12:  Saturday morning promises Good or Moderate air quality as well, and that should last for some time into the afternoon.  But it looks like the AQI should start to creep up late in the afternoon, possibly leaving us with Unhealthy conditions before the day is over.

SUNDAY, July 13:  Sunday’s forecast is a bit uncertain at this point.  There is some indication that the air quality will be better than average in the morning before deteriorating in the afternoon, so for now it looks like we can expect better than average conditions for the day.

MONDAY, July 14:  We're expecting to be back to "normal" conditions in Beijing on Monday, so look for AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, July 10, 2014

It looks like our forecast for Thursday should hold, so we are expecting better than average air quality for most or all of the day.  It is most likely that we will spend much of the day at Moderate AQI readings, but we can't rule out the possibility of variations on either side of that.  We could see elevated AQI levels in the early morning and late evening, but the middle of the day should be better than average.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, July 11:  Friday has the best forecast of any day so far this week, so we should be at Good or Moderate AQI levels for most or all of the day.

SATURDAY, July 12:  Saturday morning promises Good or Moderate air quality as well, but it looks like the AQI should creep up in the afternoon, possibly to Unhealthy before the day is over.

SUNDAY, July 13:  Sunday's forecast is a bit uncertain at this point.  There is some indication that the air quality will be better than average in the morning before deteriorating in the afternoon, but we will hope for some more clarity in the next couple of days.

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Tuesday gave us better than expected air quality, and we have a good chance of staying at better than average conditions for a few more hours.  But by noon, the AQI should start to climb, and it is most likely that we will see Unhealthy readings before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, July 10:  The weather for Thursday also looks good for better than average air quality, so we could see the AQI below Unhealthy for much of the day.

FRIDAY, July 11:  Right now, it looks like our better than average air quality should stay around for Friday.

SATURDAY, July 12:  Saturday is shaping up to be a better than average air quality day for what could be the 5th day in a row.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, July 8, 2014

We should finally see some relief from the poor air quality on Tuesday.  Look for decreasing AQI readings through the morning and into the afternoon, likely leaving us with the AQI at Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups at the best point of the day.  After that, we can expect increasing pollution again in the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, July 9:  We think the AQI should drop again on Wednesday morning, so we could drop down into the Moderate AQI range before lunch.  Despite that, the decent air quality will not last for long, and we expect a return to Unhealthy AQI readings before the day is over.

THURSDAY, July 10:  The weather for Thursday looks good for improved air quality - we just might finally make it down to Good AQI readings for the first time in more than two weeks.

FRIDAY, July 11:  Right now, it looks like our better than average air quality should stay around for Friday.  It's not a guarantee, so we will continue to monitor and hope for the best.

Monday, July 7, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, July 7, 2014

Monday's air quality should be similar to what we saw over the weekend, except that we have a better chance at improved air quality on Monday than we did on the previous days.  We are expecting Very Unhealthy conditions overnight, but the PM2.5 level should drop through the morning.  If the best-case scenario plays out, we could see the AQI drop as low as Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.  After we hit the day's low point in the afternoon, look for increasing pollution again in the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, July 8:  On Tuesday morning, we’re expecting about average conditions, but there is a decent chance that we could see better than average conditions in the afternoon.  For now, we think the most likely scenario is Unhealthy AQI readings in the morning, then readings at Moderate or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups in the afternoon.

WEDNESDAY, July 9:  The better than average air quality should continue for a bit on Wednesday morning, but we expect a return to Unhealthy AQI readings before the day is over.

THURSDAY, July 10:  Back to average air quality for Thursday:  conditions at Unhealthy and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups should be the order of the day.

Sunday, July 6, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, July 6, 2014

If you're experiencing some deja vu looking at the prediction for Sunday, never fear:  your mind isn't playing tricks on you.  The weather and pollution forecasts for Sunday are nearly identical to Saturday's, so expect another day with Unhealthy and Very Unhealthy AQI readings.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, July 7:  Monday should be another day with about normal air quality:  our AQI readings should be at Unhealthy for most of the day, and the best air of the day should be in the afternoon.

TUESDAY, July 8:  On Tuesday, we’re expecting no better than average conditions, and there is a decent chance that we could return to worse than average AQI readings.  We will keep an eye on this and hope the forecast improves.

WEDNESDAY, July 9:  We have our first chance at Good air quality in nearly two weeks on Wednesday.  From here, it looks like we have a better than 50% chance of seeing Good/Moderate readings, so we will keep our fingers crossed as we monitor the forecast.

Saturday, July 5, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, July 5, 2014

It looks like we have at least a few more hours of very poor air quality before we see some relief.  We are expecting to spend much of the morning at Very Unhealthy conditions, then the skies should clear somewhat in the afternoon.  If we're lucky, we will return to "normal" Unhealthy conditions for the upcoming days.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, July 6:  If we manage to return to normal conditions on Saturday, Sunday should keep us at about average air quality for Beijing.  So we are expecting AQI readings around Unhealthy throughout the day.

MONDAY, July 7:  Monday should be another normal day:  our AQI readings should be at Unhealthy for most of the day, and the best air of the day should be in the afternoon.

TUESDAY, July 8:  On Tuesday, we're expecting no better than average conditions, and there is a decent chance that we could return to worse than average AQI readings.  We will keep an eye on this and hope the forecast improves.

Thursday, July 3, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, July 4, 2014

We expected high AQI readings on Thursday, but we did not expect to see the AQI go up into the Hazardous range.  AQI readings that high are unusual for summertime in Beijing, so despite similar predicted weather conditions for Friday, we can't rule out the possibility that we will see conditions return to a more "normal" state.  Our prediction graph reflects this possibility, and it also reflects the possibility that we could see another day of much higher than usual pollution levels.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, July 5:  The very poor air quality could continue into Saturday morning, but we should see a return to average air quality on Saturday afternoon, likely back down to Unhealthy conditions.

SUNDAY, July 6:  Sunday should keep us at about average air quality for Beijing, so we can expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

MONDAY, July 7:  And Monday should be another normal day:  AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups with the best air of the day coming in the afternoon.

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, July 3, 2014

Wednesday gave us a few moments of decent air quality, but Thursday should bring us back to more normal conditions.  We're expecting Unhealthy AQI readings throughout the day, but there is also a small chance that we could see Very Unhealthy conditions at times.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, July 4:  There is a small chance of improved air quality overnight and into Friday morning, but aside from that chance, we should see another average day.

SATURDAY, July 5:  We should again see about average air quality on Saturday, likely at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.  As usual, there is a reasonable chance that we could see somewhat improved conditions in the afternoon.

SUNDAY, July 6:  Sunday should bring us another day of average air quality in Beijing, so we can expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

Tuesday, July 1, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Tuesday gave us air quality that was a little worse than we expected, but it looks like we'll be seeing improved conditions on Wednesday morning.  Unfortunately, we don't think the AQI will stay low for very long.  You can expect increasing AQI readings throughout the day, likely taking us back up to Unhealthy before the day is over.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, July 3:  Thursday should bring us another day of average air quality in Beijing, so we can expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

Monday, June 30, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, July 1, 2014

Monday was our second day with average air quality, and it looks like Tuesday will be the third.  You can expect the normal pattern for the day:  increased AQI readings overnight, improving conditions in the afternoon, then increasing pollution in the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, July 2:  We should again see about average air quality on Wednesday, likely at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

THURSDAY, July 3:  And Thursday should continue our streak of average air quality in Beijing.

FRIDAY, July 4:  There is a small chance of improved air quality overnight and into Friday morning, but aside from that chance, we should see another average day.

Sunday, June 29, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, June 30, 2014

Monday should copy Sunday's air quality, more or less.  We're looking for Unhealthy air quality in the morning, then some decrease in the AQI readings by early afternoon.  Unhealthy and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups readings should be the order for the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, July 1:  Tuesday should look similar to Monday:  about average air quality with a decent chance at improved conditions in the afternoon.

WEDNESDAY, July 2:  We should again see about average air quality on Wednesday, likely at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

THURSDAY, July 3:  And Thursday should continue our streak of average air quality in Beijing.

Saturday, June 28, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, June 29, 2014

The clean air from Saturday morning stayed around longer than we expected, so our forecast for Sunday is better than it was a day ago.  We're looking for increasing PM2.5 levels throughout the day, so we should be moving up from Moderate/Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups to Unhealthy/Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, June 30:  Monday should bring us average air quality, Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, although there is a chance at somewhat improved air quality in the afternoon.

TUESDAY, July 1:  Tuesday should look similar to Monday:  about average air quality with a decent chance at improved air quality in the afternoon.

WEDNESDAY, July 2:  We should again see about average air quality on Wednesday, likely at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

Friday, June 27, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, June 28, 2014

We're expecting better than average air quality on Saturday morning, but we should see the air quality deteriorate throughout the day.  The morning should start off with Moderate/Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups readings, then gradually move up until we end the day at Unhealthy/Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups readings.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, June 29:  Sunday morning could bring us slightly better than average air quality (particularly so if the AQI stays below 150 on Saturday evening), but otherwise we should be back to about average conditions on Sunday.  You can expect the AQI readings to be at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

MONDAY, June 30:  Monday should bring us more average air quality, although there is a chance at somewhat improved air quality in the afternoon.

TUESDAY, July 1:  Tuesday should look similar to Monday:  about average air quality with a decent chance at improved air quality in the afternoon.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, June 27, 2014

We're looking for clear skies on Friday!  We should see falling PM2.5 levels overnight, leaving us with Good/Moderate air quality by mid-morning, then lasting for the rest of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, June 28:  It looks like the good air quality should continue on Saturday, so we should have a great start to the weekend.

SUNDAY, June 29:  We should be back to about average conditions on Sunday, so expect the AQI readings to be at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day.

MONDAY, June 30:  Monday should bring us more average air quality, although there is a chance at somewhat improved air quality in the afternoon.

Thursday, June 26, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, June 26, 2014

Our forecast is not positive for Thursday.  Look for increasing PM2.5 levels through the early morning hours, keeping us at Very Unhealthy for at least most of the morning.  By late morning, we should see the pollution start to drop off somewhat, but we're not expecting any real relief on Thursday.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, June 27: Our relief from Thursday's Very Unhealthy air should come on Friday.  We expect to wake up to Good/Moderate AQI readings, and those should stick around for nearly the entire day.

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Tuesday was a fairly typical day for air quality in Beijing this time of year, and it looks like Wednesday should be pretty similar.  We are expecting increasing pollution overnight, then decreased pollution in the afternoon and evening.  We are expecting AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups throughout the day, but there is still a slight chance that we could see Moderate AQI readings at some point in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, June 26:  Thursday’s air quality is likely to be worse than Wednesday’s, so look for Unhealthy or higher AQI readings throughout the day.

FRIDAY, June 27:  The predicted conditions for Friday give us a strong chance at Good or Moderate AQI readings during the day.

SATURDAY, June 28:  We are still looking at the possibility of better than average air quality on Saturday, but this is far from certain from this far out.  We will keep an eye on the forecast and hope for the best . . .

Monday, June 23, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, June 24, 2014

On Monday, the weather that was predicted was not the weather we saw; luckily for us, the weather we saw gave us much better than expected air quality!  Given the hit or miss nature of our forecasts over the last couple of weeks, you might notice that our prediction "window" is wider than usual in the graph above.  We think it is most likely that we will see AQI readings between Moderate and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for most of the day (except for the time around sunrise and the morning commute when there is a good chance that we will make it to Unhealthy), but it is difficult to rule out the possibility of straying from that window at either end.  So with that in mind you can read the graph accordingly, and we will hope that the weather conditions keep us on the lower end of the predicted range.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, June 25:  Wednesday looks from here to be an average summer day in Beijing, so expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

Sunday, June 22, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, June 23, 2014

We should see a bit of Sunday's good air quality stick around on Monday, but it will likely not last for long.  Around the morning commute, we expect to see the AQI reading to jump back up to Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy and remain there for the rest of the day.

TUESDAY, June 24:  We expect to start Tuesday off with poor air quality, but there is a decent chance that we could see improved air quality (possibly down to Moderate or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) in the afternoon.

WEDNESDAY, June 25:  Wednesday looks from here to be an average summer day in Beijing, so expect AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

THURSDAY, June 26:  Thursday's air quality is likely to be worse than Wednesday's, so look for Unhealthy or higher AQI readings throughout the day.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, June 22, 2014

We again had an unexpected clearing on Saturday afternoon, so we're starting Sunday off with lower AQI readings that we expected.  Because of this, we think that we should be spending Sunday at Moderate, Unhealthy for Sensitive groups, or Unhealthy AQI readings.

MONDAY, June 23:  For now, it looks like the streak of poor air quality should continue on Monday, although there is some indication that the air quality may be improved in the morning.  We'll look for confirmation of this over the weekend.

TUESDAY, June 24:  Tuesday looks similar to Monday, but we could see some change in the weather pattern in the afternoon or evening.  It’s not clear yet whether that will change the AQI readings, but we will keep an eye on it.

WEDNESDAY, June 25:  We are likely to see Unhealthy conditions on Wednesday as well, but there is a chance of improving pollution levels in the afternoon.

Friday, June 20, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, June 21, 2014

Friday's good air quality was a wonderful surprise, but we don't expect it to repeat on Saturday.  If the weather forecast is correct, we should see Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy conditions throughout the day on Saturday.

SUNDAY, June 22:  Although Sunday's air quality is likely to be better than Saturday's, there’s no break in sight here – expect Unhealthy conditions on Sunday as well.

MONDAY, June 23:  For now, it looks like the streak of poor air quality should continue on Monday.

TUESDAY, June 24:  Tuesday looks similar to Monday, but we could see some change in the weather pattern in the afternoon or evening.  It's not clear yet whether that will change the AQI readings, but we will keep an eye on it.

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, June 20, 2014

Like Thursday, Friday's air quality should be about average or even a bit worse than average.  We are again expecting peak AQI readings in the morning, then somewhat improved conditions in the afternoon and evening.

SATURDAY, June 21:  Saturday should also have us at Unhealthy or worse conditions throughout the day.

SUNDAY, June 22:  There’s no break in sight here – expect Unhealthy conditions on Sunday as well.

MONDAY, June 23:  For now, it looks like the streak of poor air quality should continue on Monday.

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, June 19, 2014

You might notice that our prediction for Thursday's air quality has a wide range - after the last few days of very volatile AQI readings, we're hesitant to predict a narrow range on a day where the weather forecast does not give us a completely definitive air quality forecast.  So for Thursday, keep in mind the general trend predicted here (decreasing pollution in the morning, mostly stable conditions for most of the day, then increasing pollution in the evening) and watch the AQI readings throughout the day to get a sense of what might happen over the following few hours.  And for tomorrow and the following forecasts, we'll hope that the weather patterns here in Beijing start to fall into a consistent pattern.

FRIDAY, June 20:  We think Friday will take us back up to about normal, Unhealthy conditions.

SATURDAY, June 21:  Saturday should also have us at Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

SUNDAY, June 22:  There's no break in sight here - expect Unhealthy conditions on Sunday.

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, June 18, 2014

The air quality for the past couple of days has been a real roller coaster with AQI readings changing more than 100 points in just a couple of hours.  We're not sure when this volatility will subside, but for now there is a decent chance that we could still have those swings on Wednesday.  AQI levels could go up or down overnight, but we think that the pollution should decrease at least somewhat during the morning hours, then move back up a bit in the afternoon.  Late in the evening, we have a chance at seeing a real clearing of the air.

THURSDAY, June 19:  The extended forecast gives us some hope for Thursday’s air quality – we could see better than average conditions in the morning, but that good air might not last much past the morning.

FRIDAY, June 20:  We think Friday will take us back up to about normal, Unhealthy conditions, but we can't rule out the possibility of better than average conditions in the morning.

SATURDAY, June 21:  Saturday should have us at Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

Monday, June 16, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Tuesday, June 17, 2014

After a rough day on Monday, it looks like we will see little improvement on Tuesday.  We can expect Unhealthy or higher AQI readings in the morning, then we should see conditions improve just a little in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

WEDNESDAY, June 18:  We should see more of the same on Wednesday:  Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

THURSDAY, June 19:  The extended forecast gives us some hope for Thursday’s air quality – we could see better than average conditions in the morning, but we’ll have to get closer to then before we feel confident in that outcome.

FRIDAY, June 20:  We also have a chance at improved air quality on Friday, and again it's not a clear call.  So stay tuned for updates as we get closer to the end of the week.

Sunday, June 15, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, June 16, 2014

Just a quick forecast for Monday:  We will probably see better than average air quality on Monday, particularly in the afternoon and evening, but the weather forecast isn't one that usually guarantees a blue sky day.  Because of that, there is a decent chance that we could see no better than Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups conditions at the best point of the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, June 17:  If we do see clearing skies on Monday, we can expect Tuesday to start off with better than average conditions, but we do not expect that to last all day.  Look for a return to Unhealthy conditions during the day.

WEDNESDAY, June 18:  We should be back to average conditions on Wednesday with Unhealthy conditions throughout the day.

THURSDAY, June 19:  The extended forecast gives us some hope for Thursday's air quality - we could see better than average conditions then, but we'll have to get closer to then before we feel confident in that outcome.

Saturday, June 14, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Saturday, June 14, 2014

Friday's air quality was a pleasant surprise, and for now, it looks like Saturday may be better than we expected.  We could see Moderate air quality throughout the day, but we think that the pollution levels will start to rise sometime in the afternoon.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SUNDAY, June 15:  We could see some fluctuations in the AQI on Sunday, but for the most part, we should see Unhealthy air quality.

MONDAY, June 16:  Monday morning should start off about average, but now it looks like we have a chance at clearing skies in the afternoon and evening.

TUESDAY, June 17:  If we do see clearing skies on Monday, we can expect Tuesday to start off with better than average conditions, but we do not expect that to last all day.

Friday, June 13, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Friday, June 13, 2014

We should be back to normal in Beijing on Friday as we see the AQI climb back up to Unhealthy and possibly even to Very Unhealthy throughout the day.

EXTENDED FORECAST

SATURDAY, June 14:  Saturday should continue with the Unhealthy air quality from Friday.

SUNDAY, June 15:  We could see some fluctuations in the AQI on Sunday, but for the most part, Saturday's Unhealthy air quality should continue throughout the day.

MONDAY, June 16:  It looks like we have a chance at clearing skies on Monday morning - we'll keep an eye on this weather change and hope for the best.

Thursday, June 12, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Thursday, June 12, 2014

It looks like Thursday should continue our streak of better than average air quality.  You can expect improving conditions overnight and into the morning, probably giving us Good/Moderate conditions during most of the daytime hours.  Then we should see increasing pollution again in the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

FRIDAY, June 13:  We should be back to about average conditions on Friday, probably with Unhealthy AQI readings throughout the day, but the morning may start out with better than average air quality.

SATURDAY, June 14:  Saturday should continue with the Unhealthy air quality from Friday.

SUNDAY, June 15:  The average, Unhealthy air quality should continue throughout the day on Sunday.

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, June 11, 2014

It looks like Wednesday should bring us so-so air quality.  Look for improving air quality in the morning, then AQI readings around Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for most of the day.  We should see increasing pollution levels again late in the afternoon and into the evening.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, June 12:  Thursday brings us a chance at better than average air quality, but it’s difficult to say for certain right now.  At a minimum, we should have better than average conditions.

FRIDAY, June 13:  We should be back to about average conditions on Friday, probably with Unhealthy AQI readings throughout the day.

SATURDAY, June 14:  Saturday should continue with the Unhealthy air quality from Friday.

Monday, June 9, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Monday, June 9, 2014

Sunday was better than expected, so we'll hope Monday keeps up the streak of surprises.  But based on the weather forecast, we think we should see more normal conditions on Monday, likely Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups or Unhealthy AQI readings throughout the day.  But we can't quite rule out better air quality . . .

EXTENDED FORECAST

TUESDAY, June 10:  There is still a chance of better than average conditions on Tuesday, but for now it looks more likely that we’ll be back to Unhealthy AQI readings.

WEDNESDAY, June 11:  We’re looking for another average day on Wednesday, with Unhealthy AQI readings.

THURSDAY, June 12:  We're seeing some chance of better than average air quality on Thursday, but it's not looking terribly likely at the moment.

Sunday, June 8, 2014

PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Sunday, June 8, 2014

Saturday was a great day, one of the best so far this year, but Sunday is unlikely to match it.  Look for a return to normal conditions, with AQI readings at Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, for most of the day on Sunday.

EXTENDED FORECAST

MONDAY, June 9:  Monday should start off with Unhealthy or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI readings, but there is a chance that we could see the skies clear again in the afternoon.

TUESDAY, June 10:  There is still a chance of better than average conditions on Tuesday, but for now it looks more likely that we'll be back to Unhealthy AQI readings.

WEDNESDAY, June 11:  We're looking for another average day on Wednesday, Unhealthy AQI readings.
